Ninh Binh Province is not far from Hanoi, a political, economic, cultural and social hub of Vietnam. Lying in location where the most important land routes and the North-South railway run through, Ninh Binh is one of the brigdes for economic and cultural interaction between the North and the South.

In addition it has great potential for development, including ports, territorial waters and a system of rivers running to the sea. Its advantages in transport and trade with other localities and other countries hve facilitated Ninh Binh Province’s socio-economic development, especially in the fields of industry and tourism, transportation, cultural exchange and reception of the urban civilization from the North and the South. It is impossible not to mention one of the strong points of the Province, i.e., its great and diverse potential for tourism, such as many renowned landscapes and beauty spots and an age-old history and culture full of legendary characteristics. This helps bring the Province to the forefront among the localities with unique tourist spot.

In the late 20^th centery and early 21^th centery, Vietnam in general, and Ninh Binh in particular, embarked on carrying out the socio-economic development and industrialization, with capabilities and opportunities much greater than the previous years. By 2010, industry is the target of the Province’s economic development. According to the initiators of the provincial economic development strategy, to boost industry, first of all the economic structure must be flexibly shifted to meet the needs of the markets and it must be modern and highly effective.

An important factor of the provincial economic development strategy is to encourage and favour the domestic and foreign investors in making joint ventures and investing in production and trade. At present, Ninh Binh Province has many projects calling for foreign investment. With available potential and an open-door policy aimed at joining in the domestic markets and integrating with the world, Ninh Binh will surely become a more affluent province.
