Khau Vai commune, located in Meo Vac Distric (Ha Giang Province) is considered the birthplace of a time honoured love story of a young couple. Their love was persistent but they could not marry due to the fact they came from rival tribes. Finally, they were forced to part but arranged to meet once every year that explains the birth of Khau Vai Love Market.

This market does not focus on commercial exchange, but rather a place where once-upon-a time lovers can rendezvous. The market also presents a good opportunity for young people from the surrounding villages to make new friends or find their half.

Each year, Khau Vai Love Market opens one time on the 27th day of lunar March.
